Brenda D. McClain is president of McClain Communications, a communications consulting firm specializing in Message Development and Delivery. The applications can be either through outright presentations or through questions, whether that be to external or internal audiences, including the media, analysts, investors, customers, employees, peers, boards of directors, public hearings, etc.
Her clients include AT&T, former BellSouth and Cingular Wireless, Clearwire, Sonoco Packaging, Waste Management, CIBA Vision, UCB Pharmaceuticals, Turner Broadcasting, Georgia Pacific, The Outdoor Advertising Association of America, Marriott International, The Kentucky Department of Education, Women’s Professional Billiards Association, Telecom Pioneers, Arthritis Foundation, Cincinnati Reds, Career Sports & Marketing, Aionex, Workman Publishing, Vulcan Materials, Ford Motor Company and the U.S. Army.
Another client, the Kentucky Department of Education, has made McClain Communications’ Media Training course mandatory for all incoming school superintendents. In addition, the NCAA Foundation selected her to write the Media Relations component for its Life Skills Program, aimed at preparing student-athletes across the country for life after college.
Ms. McClain formed McClain Communications, Inc. in 1990 and has trained thousands of people nationwide in a variety of industries – from CEOs of Fortune 100 companies to executive management teams and middle managers and product managers to company spokespeople and sports celebrities.
Before forming McClain Communications, Ms. McClain worked as manager of media relations for BellSouth Corporation in Atlanta, where she developed and conducted a comprehensive media training program as well as handled reporters from such publication and broadcast stations as Fortune, Wall Street Journal and “ABC World News Tonight.”
Prior to BellSouth, she worked as a radio and television reporter and anchor in various markets in the Southeast as well as a newspaper reporter for a daily in South Carolina. She also taught high school English and journalism.
Ms. McClain graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Furman University in Greenville, S.C., in 1979 where she received her B.A. in English. In 1983, she graduated from Stanford University’s Mass Media Institute in Television News.
